USC Head Coach Steve Spurrier:

Opening Statement:

"We don't know how to play with a lead," Spurrier said, and he threatened to convert wide receivers into defensive backs in late-game situations. "It's sad to watch us play pass defense."

"Another dumb play by South Carolina."

“Heck, we won. I guess I ought to be happy.  But I don’t like endings like this.”

“We’re still South Carolina. We still can’t shake being a South Carolina team that don’t know how to win. That’s sad to say.  I don’t know if this has happened in the past, but I’m not used to it happening to teams I’m coaching."

“Get a two-touchdown lead and almost just say, ‘Come on back, boys, and hopefully we can hold on and edge you out.’ ”

“That was embarrassing that we just let them guys go up and down the field in the last four minutes of the game.”

On why he chose the trick play instead of settling for a FG attempt: "I saw Clemson-Wake Forest today and that's why I didn't try a field goal and risk a block (on USC's last possession)," Spurrier said. "I probably should have taken a chance (and kicked) with our defense."

USC Player Quotes:

Fred Bennett:

On Spurrier's comments after the game-“He’s the coach. If that’s what he feels needs to be done, that’s what needs to be done.”

Kentucky Head Coach Rich Brooks:

On the trick play:
“We were expecting them to throw a pass back to the quarterback at some point,” Brooks said. “I don’t think we were expecting it then.”

“We’re still South Carolina. We still can’t shake being a South Carolina team that don’t know how to win. That’s sad to say."  ~Steve Spurrier (on his team)
